The ultracentrifuge “OPTIMA XPN-90” is intended for use in applications requiring high field strengths that are capable of separating and isolating small particles (viruses, bacteria and subcellular components, such as mitochondria) and large molecules (peptides, DNA, proteins). The ultracentrifuge has a built-in vacuum induction motor with high tolerance to imbalances and noise reduction (less than 51 dBA). Optima XPN-90 has two independent rotor recognition systems with DRIC (Dynamic Rotor Inertia Check) system and disks equipped with speed limiter, regenerative braking system (which provides energy recovery in deceleration).
The solid-state thermoelectric control system of the centrifugation temperature can be set between 0 and 40 °C with increments of 1 °C. The speed can be set from 1,000 RPM to 90,000 RPM depending on the rotor. It has 10 acceleration/deceleration profiles.
Please refer to the specific Beckman Coulter manual for further details such as compatible rotors (product no. A99842).
The titanium rotors available at the CGS are:
- SW 41 Ti swinging rotor (code 331336), settable up to 41,000 RPM, which can accommodate up to 6 tubes with volumes from 3.5 to 13 ml in polyallomer or polycarbonate;
- Type 45 Ti rotor (code 339160), settable up to 45,000 RPM, with a fixed angle of 24° which can accommodate up to 6 tubes with volumes from 4 to 94 ml in polyallomer or polycarbonate.
Please refer to the respective manuals for further details such as proper tubes.
